Amazon Prime Videos in VR

You can now watch Amazon Prime Videos now from your own private theater in VR on Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Go and Oculus Quest.  In addition to being able to watch traditional content on a giant virtual screen, Amazon is also building a library of VR videos, starting with ten 360 videos, including Baobab Studios’ Invasion and Asteroids.

The menu is intuitive and easy to navigate, and there’s a voice search feature.  In the Oculus Quest version, the menus 1appear in 6DOF VR (i.e., you’ll be able to move around).  There’s a separate tab for VR content.

When watching non-VR content, the video will be shown in a virtual movie theater in 6DOF on the Quest.  You can choose from three screen sizes and you can move the screen around, even directly overhead you (if you want to watch in bed).

Mic’s thoughts

Gear VR has been around since 2015, but Amazon didn’t have an app until now.  I hope that they’re creating an app now because they’re seeing modest growth in VR in 2019.
