During Google I/O 2016 there was the announcement of Daydream, the latest mobile-based head-mounted display (HMD) by Google, and one of its appealing features is that it can be compatible with Android phones – but only if they are specifically supportive of Google’s Daydream. Previously there were no official announcements of companies releasing for Daydream, but Alcatel is now the first company to announce its production of Daydream-ready smartphones
Alcatel will be releasing its Daydream-ready smartphones worldwide, and after working closely with Google the two companies seemed to have elevated each other by utilising engineers from both teams according to the latest press release by Alcatel. The appeal that Alcatel is aiming to push is ” delivering an immersive audio experience, better display and premium content, including music, gaming and entertainment.”
Dan Dery, Alcatel’s Chief Marketing Officer, said in the press release: “We are dedicated to enriching the VR ecosystem by providing innovative solutions for hardware, content and the user experience. This continues our commitment to bringing our consumers the latest VR technology customized to their needs.”
The target audience of the company is clear as it has been said the collaboration with Google has proved its understanding of the Millennial generation – or Generation Z – and will play to this generation’s love of entertainment. Alcatel had already released a VR-compatible smartphone, the IDOL 4, and the company is trying to prove its dedication to VR as a whole by announcing that it will be the first companies to support Daydream.
Daydream, which will run on Android N, will be launching in November of this year, and Alcatel is aiming to release its phones in the first half of 2017.
