Car manufacturers are in a race to produce more environmentally friendly vehicles as consumer demand continues to grow. While the sector has mainly been dominated by electric cars companies are looking at alternative solutions, one of them being hydrogen. In the 360-degree video below one of the biggest car makers in the world, Toyota, takes viewers on a journey into its hydrogen fuel cell system that’s built into the Mirai.

Produced by the Discovery channel the video is introduced by Dr. Kaku, who goes on to explain that hydrogen is the world’s most abundant element, making it a natural power source. Shrinking down to a microscopic level, the video details how hydrogen is combined with oxygen to create energy, with the by product being only water.

We head into the fuel tank where various stats are shown on the estimate driving mile range and miles per gallon, before moving into the fuel cell itself. This is where you’ll learn about how the whole process works.

Part advert part science lesson, the 360-degree video gives a glimpse at where car technology is going as the Toyota Mirai isn’t a far of concept car but a vehicle that can be purchased this year.
