In an announcement today, Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. has revealed that virtual reality (VR) data glove company Manus VR has submitted an initial production order for the device.

The two companies have entered the first phases to produce the Bend sensor which will power the Manus VR gloves. Using Flexpoints Bend Sensor technology, the firms engineers collaborated extensively with the Manus VR team over the development lifecycle to incorporate a custom Bend Sensor design.

Manus VR CTO Maarten Witteveen said in a statement: “Combining high fashion with precision electronics is a difficult feat to manage. The new flex foil design allows us to create an aesthetically pleasing product without any cluttering wires. We are pleased with the public developer kit which will be released in the coming months.”

According to Paul Sexauer, Flexpoint VP Sales and Marketing, “Flexpoint is proud to be fully integrated into the virtual reality product that a prestigious firm like Manus VR is launching.  We anticipate a long term business partnership that is mutually beneficial. This relationship validates and reinforces our unique position in the exciting and rapidly growing VR market.”

Manus VR began pre-order registrations back in December 2015, with the price for the development kit €250 EUR for a pair of gloves, SDK’s for Android, Windows, Linux, iOS 9 and Mac OSX, plug-ins for Unity and Unreal, and a Manus VR demo game for each supported platform.

Flexpoint expects to deliver several hundred thousand sensor systems annually upon full production, with both companies anticipating a rapid growth trajectory for the products globally during the second half of 2016 and in the future.

Manus VR has also created a software development platform that’ll enable developers to design and build applications not only for VR virtual reality but retail, healthcare, engineering and real estate.

As VRFocus learns more about Manus VR’s glove development we’ll report right back.
