Reggie Watts is a big believer in using virtual reality (VR) as a stage for his comedy sets, and is not shy about using VR capabilities to its fullest his last VR production at the Sundance Festival this year featured him shooting lasers out of his mouth while singing with heads floating in a multi-neon-coloured stage. This has set up a few expectations for his newly announced VR show in AltspaceVR later this month on Oculus VR head-mounted displays (HMD) as well as the HTC Vive.

Reggie Watts, a quirky “internationally acclaimed” musician and comedian, will be debuting his comedy set in VR, and it may echo some themes from the previously mentioned Sundance Festival piece produced as it is said it will be “breaking the boundaries of what’s possible in VR”, and it may be taken further than the festival show as we are warned it is “intended for mature audiences, expect colorful language and content”. This can also be expected to be a social event as it is broadcast from AltspaceVR, a social VR platform that allows users to play, watch, and hang out in both VR and 2D.

Not many details have been shared on the content of the show, but when announcing the event on Twitter, Watts himself expressed his investment in VR, saying “Another dream of mine comes true”.

The adult comedy event will take place 26th May from 8PM to 9PM (PDT), physically performed from San Francisco, and is being advertised as free on AltspaceVR, and will be available on the Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, and HTC Vive HMDs. There will also be a 2D version for those who haven’t yet got a headset where attendees can download the AltspaceVR app on both Mac and PC to watch from home.
