The Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder is a professional grade, portable, digital recording device. One of the interesting features of this digital recorder is the unique X/Y mic design. The two stereo condenser microphones on this unit are able to pivot so that you can adjust them depending on the location of the subject you are recording. Being able to adjust the microphones virtually eliminates phase shifting and results in a natural and accurate recording.

The Zoom H4n is the only four channel hand-held recorder available. This allows you to record audio using the on board mics and/or external mics or direct inputs so you can place microphones wherever they need to be to get the best recording. This device also has a built-in mixer for blending the channels.

The Reviews:

The reviews for the Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder are quite good with one person saying “for this price, you cannot find anything better.” This is a great device for recording voice and music. Many musicians use it for recording rehearsals and performances and are very pleased with the results. The stereo mics produce fantastic sound and the compressor and limiter are things you normally don’t find on a portable recording device.

Some of the reviewers of this product did find it a little complicated to use at first although it did get easier with a little bit of practice. It’s not the easiest device to use right out of the box without reading the manual and some people that reviewed this product said that even with the manual it can still be fairly difficult to learn because the manual is not very clear on describing how to do what this recorder is capable of doing.
