Zombies have been a popular game theme for at least the past 10 years, and it doesn’t look like the trend will be slowing down with apocalypse titles spreading into virtual reality (VR). City Z, a narrative-led VR title, has released on Steam for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMD).

City Z is a top-down shooter where the player is forced to survive in a virus-infected society with no government to control the situation. With only a few isolated groups who remain, the player completes missions where they find other survivors who may help if they trust them. Each and every game is generated in a unique way, including different scenery, objectives, weather, and date, and each mission takes place in a different city with varying characters.

Some of the random missions that will be generated will be to kill all zombies, resist a zombie assault, kill a boss, rescue and escort a VIP or a family member, or try an antidote prototype on infected civilians. Players differentiate according to stamina, virus resistance, social skills, and starting weapons, some of which will be pistols, shotguns, grenades, or knives.

City Z is available at a discounted price of £4.19 GBP, 25% off of the original £5.59, on Steam and is playable on both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. There is also DLC in the form of a soundtrack at £1.99.
