We’re just a week away from the commencement of this year’s Electornic Entertainment Expo (E3) and the internet is buzzing with anticipation over a week of news, reveals, shocks and surprises. For virtual reality (VR) much is expected, with commercial versions of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear VR on the market. The Playstation VR imminent and even Razer looking to unveil a new version of their Open Source Virtual Reality – better known as OSVR – head-mounted display (HMD).

The biggest console noise is expected from the hardware side of things however. There are at present all manner of rumours, whispers from those allegedly in the know and purported leaks regarding new iterations of both the PlayStation 4 and the XBox One as well as the possibility of news Nintendo’s NX system. Each of these systems has the possibility of offering VR support, with Nintendo rumoured to have pushed back the NX in order to accommodate it whilst we covered what the ‘PlayStation Neo’ and the Xbox One (or XBox Two) ‘Scorpio’ could mean for VR in a roundup feature earlier in the week.

For XBox One, which does not have its own dedicated HMD itself, there is an additional reason for VR fans to watch their presentation with great interest. Whilst there are apparently VR games in the works for the console, they are not confirmed. However, it is being reported that some eagle eyes on NeoGAF have spotted that something might very well be on the cards for the event as the E3 website includes the game category of “Virtual Reality Xbox One” in its list. Not only that but creative studios Maximum Games (makers of Loading Human), Rebellion (Battlezone VR), Readily Information Co. Ltd (A VR creative and games outsourcing studio) and 3DRudder (foot-based control scheme creators) are actively listed with it.

It should be pointed out that a Virtual Reality category also exists for the PlayStation 3, which is highly unlikely to be accurate.
