If you have made a recent trip through Waterloo station in London this past week then you may have noticed the hyperrealistic face of Murray plastered everywhere with a booth ready for you to try out the VR experience of Wimbledon. VRFocus previously reported on the launch of Wimbledon VR, and now the campaign is taking another step forward in the virtual world.

Hammerhead VR created Wimbledon VR, which has the hashtag #FeelWimbledon, and boasts of cinematic quality VR which “h brings together cutting-edge production techniques to imagine a beautiful moment-in-time at the Wimbledon Championships, and with Andy Murray as the star.”

Developed using Unreal Engine, 4D scanning was used and 125 DSLR cameras were used to capture Murray and 24 other players, as well as motion capture tech for animation.

The VR installation first debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and it has now made its way over to Waterloo as part of Jaguar’s VR venture.

The developers, Hammerhead VR, has also created a 360 video for YouTube that can be viewed on a Google Cardboard, as well as regular 2D formats. It is also said that there will be 20,000 Google Cardboards distributed to Jaguar retailers, commuters, and tennis fans throughout the campaign.

The Mindshare Creative Director, who also had a hand in creating Wimbledon VR, commented in a press released from Hammerhead VR: “Hammerhead have produced an outstanding cinematic-quality VR experience for our Jaguar Feel Wimbledon project. It has been fantastic to work with partners who truly understand the VR consumer experience, and are dedicated to creating best-in-class visual quality and detail.”

The #FeelWimbledon VR installation in Waterloo will continue to be there this week. For more on the latest VR events happening around the UK and globally, as well as all news and updates in the world of VR, check back with VRFocus.
