Dewar’s, the award wining scotch whisky maker has delved into the world of virtual reality (VR) to promote its new whisky. As part of a new marketing campaign to celebrate the launch of Dewar’s Scratched Cask, the brand has created a 360 degree video experience to bring the whisky making process to life.

The company’s national brand ambassador Gabriel Cardarella takes viewers through the blustery Scottish highlands to follow the scratching and charring process involved in the creation of Dewar’s Scratched Cask.

“Dewar’s is proud of the time and dedication that goes into the creation of our whisky, and we are excited for fans to gain a better understanding of exactly how our products are made,” said Dan Pilas, VP and Brand Managing Director, Dewar’s, in a statement. “Virtual reality gives us the unique opportunity to share our passion and give consumers a closer look at our home in Scotland.”

Dewar’s Scratched Cask is a new whisky that uses American white oak barrels from its bourbon counterparts to create a unique, new liquid. The result is surprisingly smooth with a flavourful finish. To view the experience head to www.scratched360.com on a mobile, tablet or desktop. The video can be viewed in VR or non-VR mode, for those without a head-mounted display (HMD) like the Google Cardboard or similar. Without a HMD the video can be controlled via a mouse on a desktop, or simply moving your smartphone or tablet around. To enhance the marketing drive, Dewar’s will be offering customised VR viewers at select retailers across the country as well as shipping directly to consumers through social media and the website.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest VR and 360 degree video experiences, reporting back any announcements.
