It’s a big week for Oculus VR, which means it’s a big week for parent company Facebook. The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) is now shipping and has already started to arrive at the doors of Kickstarter backers, with pre-order customers set to follow soon, carrying right the way through into July 2016. To mark the occasion, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently hosted one of Facebook’s new livestream videos, joined by Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe. Now you can watch a recording of that video back.
Zuckerberg streamed for over 20 minutes earlier this week live from Facebook HQ in Menlo Park, California. The CEO offers viewers a brief tour of his offices along with sections belonging to Oculus VR. This includes a brief tease of a ‘Vision Lab’ that seemingly holds all kinds of interesting technology, although it doesn’t appear that Zuckerberg himself can actually get into it. Eventually, the CEO meets up with Iribe, offering him congratulations on shipping the first consumer units of the Oculus Rift.
Together the pair unbox a unit for themselves, while Oculus VR members can be seen playing titles like Windlands in the background. Iribe talks over each of the individual components, which includes the unit itself, an Oculus Remote device, an Xbox One gamepad and tracking sensor. Later on, they also bringing in the Oculus Touch position tracked controllers, which won’t be arriving with the Oculus Rift itself but should be launching in the second half of the year for an undisclosed price. Zuckerberg also spends some time talking about the various videogames on offer for the Oculus Rift launch.
