Soon the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event will take place in New York City with the grand unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

The event will be live-streamed across the world in both standard format and 360-degrees. You can watch the showcase below or if you want to watch it with a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) there’s an app for the Samsung Gear VR available.

So far Samsung has only stated that the Galaxy Note 7 will be revealed along with the various features of the large smartphone, teasing details that there will be added functionality for the included S-Pen. What hasn’t been mention so far by the company is anything to do with VR and whether the new device will be compatible with the current Gear VR.

That hasn’t stopped the online rumour mill going into overdrive, with sites speculating a new version of the HMD will be revealed due to an image leak of a black Gear VR. The other theory behind a new headset is that the Galaxy Note 7 will supposedly have a new USB-C connector making it incompatible with the current version.

There could also be further details on compatibility with the Google Daydream HMD. When the search giant revealed details of the device at the Google I/O conference back in May, one of the tech partners mentioned was Samsung so a new top-of-the-range device would likely fit with those plans.

The current Gear VR hasn’t yet been out a year having launched in November 2015, but in that time has seen continued success, with content released on a weekly basis as new developers create content for the platform. And back in May Samsung revealed that in Europe alone 300,000 units had been sold up until that point.
