vTime, the mobile virtual reality (VR) social networking app from UK-based studio Starship arrived on the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) back in December 2015. Now the developer has announced the launch of vTime on Android for Goggle Cardboard users.

The app is currently in beta for Android so it won’t support every smartphone at the moment. Devices that will work with vTime are: Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Samsung Note 4, Samsung Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G3, Samsung S3, HTC One M9. More devices will be added in the coming weeks and months.

The title allows players to create their own avatar and meet up with others online in one of twelve virtual environments. Here they can talk and socialise, being able to take vSelfie’s and sharing them with friends. Even if you don’t own a headset like Google Cardboard vTime has a ‘Magic Window’ mode so you can still use the app.

Starship CEO Martin Kenwright said: “Launching on Cardboard allows us to introduce millions more people to possibilities that social VR presents. vTime proves that virtual reality doesn’t have to be isolating. We’re intent on creating a network in which conversation and communication is both natural and engaging, allowing our users to create a real human connection with vTime users across the world.”

Starship also plans to bring the experience to the Oculus Rift HMD and PlayStation VR in the future. VRFocus will continue its coverage of vTime, reporting back any further announcements.
