Virtual reality (VR) could mean huge change for a wide range of industries, and journalism is no exception. Nonny de la Peña, CEO of Emblematic Group, has been experimenting with this concept for years, recreating real incidents in VR to convey to the general public. At this March’s Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) and Game Developers Conference (GDC), de la Peña will be discussing her work with a talk titled: “Virtual Journalism: VR with a Cause“.

An official description reads: “Nonny de la Peña will discuss how she uses VR to tell news stories with a powerful social impact. From a recreation of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, to simulating what it is like for patients to fight their way through the hostile crowds outside a Planned Parenthood clinic, de la Peña will share both technical and creative insights about what it takes to craft a strong “spatial narrative.”

VRDC and GDC run from 14th – 18th March 2016. VRFocus will be at both to deliver the latest updates on VR tech.
