Showcased at an exclusive VIP launch last week was a virtual reality (VR) venture to allow future homeowners the chance to explore a building project in Birmingham, UK, before work has finished. The Franklin, in Bournville will be completed next spring and virtual tours can now be taken of two apartments online.

The Franklin has been created by Court Collaboration, a property development company that specialises in transforming iconic buildings into luxury homes. Court Collaboration teamed up with CGI specialists White Crow Studios for the VR project.

Chief executive Anthony McCourt from Court Collaboration said to bbpmedia about using VR to promote the development: “So many people want to get inside The Franklin and see what it is going to be like it has been frustrating to wait, so when I found out this technology offered a chance to see how the building will shape up in the future, it was too good to turn down.”

“Residential schemes like this don’t come along very often in Bournville – it is a fantastic place to live and work, and it was a rare opportunity to create something really special. And it went great. The headset is fantastic – it is like being in a completed room. They seemed to convert a lot of interested parties into prospective buyers,” he added.

A show home has now officially opened, and will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays. But for the full VR tours follow this link. The tours feature apartment type A and apartment type H, and are only controlled via the direction keys and mouse.

VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest news of VR, reporting back any further announcements.
