Virtual reality (VR) is a great way to put someone in another’s shoes, usually through the medium of video gaming or immersive cinematic experience. Theirworld charity uses VR for humanitarian reasons with its released VR film, Safe Schools: Nepal following the 2015 earthquake.
The film linked below marks the one year anniversary of the Nepalese earthquake tragedy and features real footage from Nepal and the impact the tragedy has had on children and their education such as getting to school, the conditions of their schools, and stories from children who have subsequently left out of school altogether.
Sarah Brown, President of Theirworld, said in a press release: “This extraordinary film transports the viewer to Nepal into the heart of the earthquake aftermath to see and hear from children at just a fingertips reach. You can’t fail to be moved by their resilience and determination to return to school and escape the layers of exploitation. We must urge world leaders to deliver this promised humanitarian fund for education in emergencies which will be able to act fast in the future to meet this need.”
