Earlier today VRFocus reported that the official app for this weekend’s long-awaited PlayStation fan event, the PlayStation Experience, had seemingly leaked the existence of a brand new PlayStation VR title in Modern Zombie Taxi. The leak seemed to suggest that indie developer Vitei Backroom’s virtual reality (VR) compatible PC project, The Modern Zombie Taxi Co, was on its way to PlayStation 4 with support for the upcoming VR HMD. A few hours on and now this has been officially confirmed to be the case.
The news was confirmed during Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) opening keynote talk for PlayStation Experience, which itself runs from 5th – 6th December 2015 in San Francisco, California. The Modern Zombie Taxi Cowas first revealed for the Oculus Rift back in 2014. The original version of the title has been compared to SEGA’s iconic Crazy Taxi series and sees players pick up zombies and race them towards their destination. It’s possible to earn extra points for destruction to the environment and the title is played from a first-person perspective.
No release date for The Modern Zombie Taxi Co was given, but PlayStation VR itself is set to launch in the first half of 2016. A specific launch date and price for the device is yet to be revealed. The kit boasts a 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate that’s capable of ‘reprojecting’ experiences in 120fps. That essentially means that titles running at 60fps natively can have their framerate doubled in-HMD without actually having to meet this demanding requirement on the PlayStation 4 hardware.
