With the consumer version of the Samsung Gear VR mobile virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) release almost a month ago, VR fans who’ve purchased the headset have had a decent number of videogames and experience to choose from. Today sees the launch of a few more titles to the Gear VR’s roster, one of those being THE BOX by developer 8ninths.
Available through the Oculus store’s concepts section, THE BOX is a novel festive application designed for delivering and receiving virtual gifts.
Opening a box transports Gear VR users to different worlds, and in the first free one the box takes you to an enchanted paper forest, where a fire sits nestled in the woodland and magical creatures can be seen. Looking up into the night sky will show off stars and constellations to enjoy. Over the course of 2016 8ninths and its partners will be releasing more boxes with new experiences to immerse yourself or others in. As with the other experiences in concepts, this is only a demonstration which will alter and change as 8ninths continues development, as such the experience is free.
