Just got the new-ish GoPro Fusion 360 camera. Reviews I’ve seen say this is the best 360 camera at the price point ($399) and I am going to test that out!

Taking it out on my EcoReco scooter for a trip, test out the stabilization software.

So far, this camera is blowing away my Ricoh Theta V.

1. Entirely operable without using the mobile app. Which is good because the mobile app is garbage. You can do everything you need with the two buttons on the camera.

2. Easy to plug in for power or file transfer using the USB-C port located on the side, next to the LCD screen.

3. Waterproof….we’ll have to see if that is worth anything. Apparently, light refraction when shooting underwater is a negative.

4. Shoots video in 5.2k, let’s see how that looks.

5. You can set the sound setting for either standard stereo OR 360 Ambisonic sound. With ambisonics you should hear sounds coming from the direction in which they were made, making for a much more immersive experience that 360 video is supposed to provide. EXAMPLE: At the start of the video and throughout, you will notice a measurable difference in the volume level of my voice dependent on where you are looking in the video. Looking at me? Easier to hear my voice.

Cons:

1. The resolution is high so the files are HUGE. Rendering and uploading a 3 minute video is going to take some time!

2. The workflow is a little different than with a Theta. You will need a machine that you can download GoPro’s Fusion Studio to (Mac or Windows) in order to stitch and render a video. The mobile app does not do that.

3. The mobile app is almost useless. It does do a fine job of triggering the shutter remotely but should do more of what it claims to do.

4. Does not support Live Streaming which is fine by me. I never have enough signal to stream anything of real interest.
