The Microsoft team who’ve been tasked with creating the Galaxy Explorer app for the company’s mixed reality (MR) head-mounted display (HMD), HoloLens, need to do so before the end of March. To give an idea of the processes involved, the team has created a behind the scenes video chronicling the apps development.

In this first episode the development team begins the creative process: brainstorming, concepting, and deciding what to prototype. It begins with senior program manager Jessica Zahn saying that HoloLens development has been ‘super secretive’ which is why Microsoft wanted to open ideas to the public through the ‘Share Your Idea’ competition ‘to find out what they would want to build’, Zahn adds.

The video then moves onto other staff members discussing what they can achieve with the time frame they’ve set themselves of 6 weeks. They’re planning to have Galaxy Explorer ready to show at the Microsoft Build Developer Conference, which takes place from 30th March – 1st, April 2016, so new updates for the project should be fairly regular.

VRFocus will continue to follow the Galaxy Explorer team, reporting back with new episodes and updates on the development.
