Survios a virtual reality (VR) developer based in Culver City, California, which raised $4million USD last year towards projects like the Proto Award winning Zombies on the Holodeck, has released a new gameplay teaser for multiplayer VR title Survios VR.

In the demo built for Oculus Touch and HTC Vive motion tracking controllers, the first person shooter (FPS) experience puts players in a close-quarters co-op battle against enemy AI as they slash, shoot, duck and dodge in the VR environment.

With interactive and destructible objects players will be have an arsenal of evolving weapons, from a simple pistol to a katana, compound bow, pump-action shotgun, plasma grenades and more. There will also be combat upgrades to unlock that give attributes like slow-mo bullet time and stealth camouflage.

The developer has also been experimenting with player movement, in a Reddit posting saying: “We handle locomotion in a variety of ways. Some of our levels are a static playspace, with no locomotion other than your physical positional movement. Other game modes involve other methods, such as teleportation, player-controlled vehicular locomotion, on-rails vehicular locomotion, or joystick translation. The latter method is comfortable only for few, namely those who are most accustomed to virtual reality and have been using it for quite some time. We will likely be including options for joystick locomotion in some fashion so users can choose – it can be quite exciting if you are comfortable with that method. My personal favorite is using vehicles or climbing in some fashion. Re: avatar embodiment, we’ve found that it is a user preference, not a hard and fast rule. Some users prefer to have a body, some do not. There are pros and cons to both.”

Survios VR will be available in 2016, although exactly when isn’t yet clear. The HTC Vive is due to be officially launched in April and the Oculus Touch for Oculus Rift is slated for Q2 2016.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest announcements from Survios on Survios VR, reporting back with any fresh details.
