Back in January VRFocus reported that Sumo Digital, the developer behind titles such as LittleBigPlanet 3 and the upcoming Crackdown 3 had opened a brand new office that was designed to explore virtual reality (VR) technology, named Sumo Nottingham. The new team, situated in Nottingham, UK, is the company’s second based in the country and third from across the globe. Today, Sumo Digital has announced that it has hired a new Studio Director for the team in Karl Hilton, the former Managing Director of Crytek UK.

During his time at Crytek, Hilton helped work on the likes of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. It’s not clear, however, if the developer spent any time working on Crytek’s recent VR efforts, which include the upcoming The Climb for the Oculus Rift and Robinson: The Journey for PlayStation VR. Likewise, it’s not yet known what Sumo Nottingham is working on in VR.

“We are looking to create a ‘state of the art’ studio in Nottingham and will build a team of experienced and new talent dedicated to creating the highest quality gaming experiences,” Hilton said of his appointment. “Working closely with the Sumo studios in Sheffield and Pune, the Nottingham studio will build on the technical and creative excellence that Sumo is well known for.”
