One of the surprise announcements from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s (SCEE) press conference at Paris Games Week earlier this year was that the forthcoming PlayStation 4 version of Tekken 7 would support PlayStation VR compatibility. To what extent the videogame will feature virtual reality (VR) is not yet known, though news of the content keeps rolling in.

During a livestream of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2015, Tekken 7 Director Katsuhiro Harada announced a major update for the videogame titled Fated Retribution. This update, set to be rolled into new arcade builds and inevitably included as standard in the eventual home console releases, will add new characters and costumes. One of these new characters, revealed via a new trailer, will be Street Fighter‘s Akuma.

Akuma was not shown in playable form during the livestream, though some pre-captured footage does reveal the design of the character model that will feature both in-game and during cutscenes. Akuma appears to retain many of his abilities from the Street Fighter series, including the Ha-Do-Ken, Dragon Punch and Hurricane Kick. Furthermore, Harada noted that Akuma will be more than a cameo, playing a central part in Tekken 7‘s storyline.

Tekken 7 is expected to make its console debut in 2016. The PlayStation VR will also arrive next year. To what extent the two will be compatible is yet to be revealed, but VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest details.
