Valve’s Steam Greenlight has been a useful avenue for a lot of virtual reality (VR) developers to get their projects noticed. One of the latest is SteamHammerVR from GamestormVR, supporting the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD).

Set in Victorian London, SteamHammerVR revolves around evil professors, giant mechanical rats and the aforementioned steam powered hammer. As the story goes: “Professor Rattwurm is attempting to enslave the fine English folk with his army of clockwork rodents. But never fear! Using this new-fangled steam power and the technical expertise of Doctor Obadiah Springhorn you are armed with the latest gizmo for bashing robot rats – The Steam Hammer exo-suit!”

This suit doesn’t just have a hammer to dispatch the dangerous rats, players will also get to duel wield the RotorHammer, RotorSaw, SteamCannon, TeslaRay and more, so you’ll be able to pick your favourite combination. There will also be ravens, lions and other automated creatures to fend off.

Built from the ground up for VR on HTC Vive, SteamHammerVR is the first VR title from GamestormVR. While looking for support from the Steam Community to get the title onto the videogame platform, the studio will be releasing a demo of SteamHammerVR towards the end of June 2016, with an eventual release date scheduled for the end of the year.

VRFocus will bring you further updates on SteamHammerVR as announcements are made.
