Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) PlayStation VR virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 has made the rounds a number of industry events through 2015. The tech has been seen at the likes of E3, Gamescom, and Paris Games Week. SCE also gave the kit a strong showcase at Tokyo Game Show in Japan back in September. Now the company has released a brand new video showing some of the reactions from fans that tried the device at the show and the PlayStation LIVE Circuit 2015 event that toured Japan in following weeks.
Scores of PlayStation fans line up to give their impressions of PlayStation VR in the short clip below. It’s not clear exactly which titles those in question played though, judging by some of the in-HMD reactions, Capcom’s horror tech demo, Kitchen, is likely to be one of them. Other experiences that were on offer at TGGS 2015 included a VR demo of Square Enix’s popular massively multiplayer online (MMO) experience, Final Fantasy XIV Online, as well as another demo for Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors 8, though neither title is confirmed to be getting full VR support just yet.
SCE’s TGS 2015 press conference actually hosted the reveal of PlayStation VR’s name, having previously been referred to by its codename of Project Morpheus since its introduction in March 2014. The device is set for release in the first half of 2016, though a specific date and price are yet to be announced. It boasts a 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate that’s capable of ‘reprojecting’ titles that run at 60fps natively at 120fps in-HMD. Fans are hoping to learn more about the device at this weekend’s PlayStation Experience fan event in San Francisco, California.
