Heading to the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) this month on Steam is samurai sword swinging, fruit slicing videogame Fruit Ninja VR. Announced by developer Halfbrick Studios, the creators of the original Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride the virtual reality (VR) version aims to bring more of the same chaotic fun.

Getting to step inside the actual Fruit Ninja universe for the first time players will have access to three different game modes, Classic, Arcade and Zen. Fruit Ninja has a simple but addictive core mechanic, slice as much fruit as possible in a given time, racking up combos to achieve as higher score as possible. But its not just about dicing fruit to pieces, to score the big points will need to skewer and juggle fruit whilst deflecting bombs. All the scores will be featured on a global leaderboard to see how well you’ve done.

Talking about why the team decided on a VR version, Adam Wood, product manager of Fruit Ninja VR said: “After the latest VR technology was released, we felt that there was no better game suited to VR than Fruit Ninja. The simplicity of Fruit Ninja with the total immersion of VR creates an experience like no other. You are now The Fruit Ninja!”

“Fruit Ninja VR signals an evolution for Halfbrick as a game developer. We are creating deeper games for mobile such as Dan the Man whilst exploring new frontiers such as VR. We want to give our fans memorable entertainment experiences via our brands on the platforms of their choice,” added Nicholas Cornelius, Chief Marketing Officer at Halfbrick.

The studio has also got plans for some additional features in the future, including customisable blades, costumes, new areas, new characters and a PvP mode.

While the HTC Vive is getting Fruit Ninja VR this month Halfbrick Studios isn’t leaving out the other HMDs, with Oculus Rift, Google Daydream and PlayStation VR support planned for Holiday 2016.
