Schell Games is clearly committed to virtual reality (VR) development. For the past few years the developer has been working on an intriguing project known as I Expect You to Die, which takes inspiration from classic spy thrillers such as the James Bond series. Late last year the team also ported its sci-fi adventure, Orion Trail, to the Gear VR mobile-based HMD. This week, however, Schell Games has released a fresh look at an entirely different kind of VR experience it is developing in Water Bears VR. Said trailer can now be seen below.

As with Orion Trail, Water Bears VR began life as another title in Water Bears, a 3D puzzle title for mobile platforms. The experience has won numerous awards such as a gold medal at the 2015 International Serious Play Awards, and is now being adapted into another VR experience. This new version of the title appears to use position-tracked controllers, suggesting that it could be for PC and console-based HMDs such as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR rather than the Gear VR, though the developer hasn’t yet commented on official platforms.

The minute long trailer shows players placing and changing water pipes in order to bring water to bears that float in bubbles on a map. Different coloured water must be applied to the corresponding bubbles. It boasts a cutesy art style that suggests this is a VR title that will be geared more towards children. That’s a market that’s been underserved by VR thus far, though understandably so with Samsung and Oculus VR setting a minimum age use of 13 on the Gear VR.

It’s not yet clear when Schell Games plans on releasing Water Bears VR. For the latest on the title and all other VR compatible videogames, check back with VRFocus.
