Last week VRFocus reported on the news that I Expect You to Die and Orion Trail developer Schell Games was working on a third virtual reality (VR) project in Water Bears VR, an adaption of its own mobile title. At the time it wasn’t clear exactly which head-mounted displays (HMDs) this new project would be appearing on. You might not have expected the title to release for some time, then, but you’d be wrong. Water Bears VR has today launched as a completely free download for a limited time only.

The project is now available on Steam, the page for which confirms that it will be coming to the HTC Vive HMD. There’s currently no word on if it could also come to the Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR in the future. The page also suggests that the project will be free until the release of the HTC Vive itself in April 2016, when the price is likely to rise to $9.99 USD. This doesn’t appear to be an Early Access release or demo of any kind; it looks like Schell Games really is offering the full product for free at this time.

Water Bears VR is a first-person puzzle experience in which players set the titular animals free from bubbles that they are trapped in. To do this, players will use the HTC Vive’s position tracked controllers to build and manipulate water pipes and guide them to the bubbles. Limited pieces are available and the colour of the water must match the given bubble in order to set the water bear free.
