Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event has now drawn to a close and there’s been lots of information to take away from it. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones had their official announcement, with specifications and new features unveiled. Samsung’s virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) also featured prominently, and Epic Games’ founder and CEO Tim Sweeney came on stage to talk more about the new Vulkan API.

VRFocus reported on the Vulkan API earlier this week which is officially described as: ‘a new generation graphics and compute API that provides high-efficiency, cross-platform access to modern GPUs’. What wasn’t revealed was its support for mobile platforms and how its can advance mobile gaming.

Sweeney peaking about Vulkan said: “Games can have more objects, more artistry, and more interactivity than ever before.” The Vulkan API allows rendering four times faster than rendering than openGL allowing developers to unlock more from their videogames.

Vulkan is also integrated into Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, which is free to download for anyone wishing to create videogames for mobile. The video below has several of the studios team discussing the further use of the API and its possibilities.
