It’s a big week for the Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). Creators Samsung and Oculus VR have finally put up USA pre-orders for the consumer version of the kit, in the process finally confirming that it will be shipping on 20th November. Of course, the pair have also promised in the past that Gear VR’s international release won’t be too far behind the American one. In fact, Samsung itself has this week reassured that pre-orders for outside the USA will be coming soon.

A Samsung representative confirmed as much to VRFocus this week, though did not mention any specific dates. On top of that, Oculus VR’s Gypsy816 recently took to Reddit to also confirm the news, stating: “Side note: this is currently for the US with worldwide shipping coming soon.” Currently the consumer Gear VR can be pre-ordered through Samsung itself along with Amazon and Best Buy in the USA. It’s not yet clear which retailers will be stocking the device in other countries, although regional Samsung outlets are a safe bet.

The consumer Gear VR comes just under a year after the launch of the very first Innovator’s Edition of the device, which hit in December 2014 and supported the Galaxy Note 4 enlarged smartphone. That device was followed by another Innovator’s Edition that supported the Galaxy S6. This first consumer edition costs just $99 USD and supports all of Samsung’s 2015 smartphones including the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge plus and Galaxy Note 5. Oculus VR has also launched a range of new content for the device this week.

VRFocus will continue to follow the Gear VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
