All the way back in August 2015 VRFocus reported that Justin Roiland, one of the co-creators of and voice actors behind popular Adult Swim show, Rick and Morty, was teaming up with Hover Junkers developer Stress Level Zero to work on a virtual reality (VR) project. It looked as if the pair could be working on a VR rendition of the animated series, which was recently picked up for a third season. As it turns out, however, Roiland himself is immensely passionate about VR in general and has four ‘fully fleshed-out’ titles to develop for the tech.

Roiland revealed as much in a recent interview with PC Gamer. The creator noted that he had an HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) at his house and couldn’t be more ‘energized, enthusiastic, excited, and motivated’ about working with it. He revealed that these projects would be focused on ‘really cool experiences with NPCs’ and sketches revealed to the site suggested that at least some of them could be linked to the Rick and Morty universe if not actually based on the characters themselves.

“I want to create amazing, beautiful environments to explore,” Roiland said. “I’m very sci-fi oriented, I love sci-fi. I’m likely going to be focused in that area—colorful, bright alien worlds with really fun, interesting talented voice acted characters, NPCs and whatnot.”

Work on at least project will probably get underway once Stress Level Zero has wrapped up work on Hover Junkers, which is now running an IndieGoGo crowd-funding campaign. Roiland is also working with The Stanley Parable‘s Davey Wreden on the project.

Stay tuned to VRFocus for the latest updates on this project.
