Monopods and selfie sticks are essential for 360 photos and videos. Avoid dropping your camera and make them even more useful by adding these wide base Qubo tripod legs.
When you’re shooting with 360 cameras, a selfie stick or monopod creates the illusion of a 3rd person view, and lets you position it to get cinematic shots. Here’s a tutorial:
The Qubo’s design seems to be based on the Manfrotto Pixi EVO, which is also a tabletop tripod with extendable legs. However, the Qubo’s ballhead can be removed. This is a useful feature because in most cases, a ballhead is not necessary when shooting in 360. On the other hand, for those occasions that you do want a ballhead, it’s available for you to use.
When fully collapsed and with the ballhead removed, the Qubo is compact enough to fit into the front pocket of my pants. The legs are independently extendable from around 5.5 inches to around 8 inches, with four positions. The legs can also be opened to two different angles.
With the legs collapsed, the base is similar to the base of other built-in stands for monopods, suitable for indoor use:
With the Qubo legs fully extended, the Qubo’s legs are wide enough to enable it to be used outdoors, with a base diameter of around 18 inches. Moreover, because the legs can be independently extnded, it is possible to use it on inclined surfaces.
Here is a comparison of the nadir when the legs are at their smallest, and at their widest, shot on Insta360 One X:
One issue with the Qubo is that if you press down hard enough, there is a bit of flex in the legs, similar to consumer-grade tripods. Nonetheless for convenience, the Qubo will be my choice for tripod legs for the Insta360 Invisible Selfie Stick. Qubo is available on Amazon (currently around $24).
