Part of the series of new reveals for EVE: Valkyrie at EVE Fanfest 2016 was a brand new map, Crossroads, which has been confirmed for release this summer. CCP Newcastle has stated that the map was designed specifically for this year’s EVE celebration, but that rolling it out to live players of the videogame was a natural part of the equation.

The visual design of the map is different to those that came bundled as part of the EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack in that it appeared much lighter. A green hue distances the backdrop from the action, as players fight amongst scattered debris and asteroids of various shapes and sizes. Despite visual indicators of both friendly and enemy ships being present at all times, it’s with regular abandonment that a vessel will rise up from behind a nearby object and take you by surprise.

This of course leads to some fairly chaotic matches. Players experienced with EVE: Valkyrie will use this disorientation to their advantage, but it does also lead to there typically being two areas in which battles cluster. One area tucked away behind a Gallente control tower seems to be the core position for most battles, but break out fights often occur pushed out towards the very centre of the map. Again, this knowledge will be advantageous to experienced players.

The new Crossroads map is currently being showcased on both the consumer version of the Oculus Rift (available for all attendees) and on PlayStation VR (private demos only), and has been confirmed for launch this summer. Whether Crossroads will be available as a free update or premium content has not yet been revealed, but of course VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on EVE: Valkyrie.
