Exploring the ways modern pop-culture and technology intertwine is a new exhibition being held at the Arizona Science Centre next month. Stage Nine Exhibitions has announced POPnology, a fully interactive event that will celebrate some of history’s most notable works of technological innovation inspired by popular culture and imagination.
The POPnology exhibition will be split into four distinct areas, they are: How We Play, How We Connect, How We Move and How We Live and Work. In How We Play this area examines the technology of entertainment and its impact on how people spend their free time. Highlights include virtual reality (VR) gaming with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), 3D projected playing fields, and hands-on activities with familiar and cutting-edge musical instruments.
For How We Connect this part of the exhibition explores the relationship between communications and technology by looking at the history and future of communication, from landline rotary telephones and VCRs to video chats and smartphones. The How We Move area looks at the history and evolution of human transportation. Showcased are popular culture hallmarks in transportation including Mars rovers; jetpacks; Marty McFly’s hoverboard; self-driving car technology from NVIDIA and the roll-out of the high-speed transportation system, the Hyperloop.
In the final area How We Live and Work visitors will find innovations currently shaping our lives. Here you’ll find, remote manipulation with hands-on, visitor-controlled demonstrations, real-world robotics featuring Baxter and the history of robots: the evolution of androids, factual and fictional with life-size icons such as Terminator and R2D2
“We are thrilled to be the host of the world premiere!” says Chevy Humphrey, President and CEO of Arizona Science Center in a statement. This exhibition chronicles technology advancements like never before, including areas like 3-D printing, robotics, virtual gaming and transportation.
The exhibition will be at the Arizona Science Centre on 7th, February 2016, after which it’ll tour the US and Canada.
