Cherry Pop Games launched Pool Nation VR for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) only four short weeks ago. Since then user reaction on Steam has been very positive and VRFocus also gave it tops marks in our review. The development team hasn’t been resting on its laurels, releasing an optimisation update a few days after launch and now another update has gone live which includes an Air Hockey Beta addition.

Now Pool Nation VR players will find an Air Hockey table in their bar with an accurate representation of the classic game. A blue table with the score indicator over the middle, all you need to do is grab a puck and a friend to play.

The studio has also added several new dart modes into the beta, with 101, 301, 501, Cricket and Freeplay now available to tryout.

If you want to try the beta version then follow these instructions from Cherry Pop Games:

  1. Right-click on “Pool Nation VR” in your Steam library and select “Properties”
  2. Click on the “Betas” tab
  3. Enter beta access code: betaTest12345
  4. Click the “Check Code” button
  5. Select this option in the dropdown box: “beta – Public preview”
  6. Click “Close”

“As long as SteamVR is not running, Steam should start downloading the ‘beta’ build right away. If the download doesn’t kick off right away, you can usually prompt a download by opening the “Local Files” tab and clicking “Verify Integrity of Game Cache…”.
You may return to the main public release of the game, return to the same “Betas” tab and change the combobox to “NONE – Opt out of all beta programs”.

Also noted is: “The ‘beta’ branch contains our latest improvements, but isn’t yet ready to publish as a patch to the full ‘default’ branch because there are bugs and rough edges to work out. The ‘beta’ branch will use your saved progress and settings from the last time you played on the ‘default’ branch. Note that the game won’t save any progress or settings made while playing in ‘beta’. This is to prevent data loss; we might be able to lift this restriction on future ‘beta’ builds.”

Pool Nation VR is currently featured in the Steam Summer Sale with a 15 percent discount available until 4th July 2016. That brings the price down from £14.99 GBP to £12.74. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Poll Nation VR, reporting back with any further updates.
