It’s not often that Gear VR fans get to know what’s coming to the mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) ahead of it actually arriving. Kit co-creator Oculus VR has recently provided a brief update on what to expect in the near future, however. A handful of new titles have been confirmed, including the new addition to the Herobound franchise in Herobound: Gladiators. Also announced is what appears to be a VR port of a popular indie release from last year in Please, Don’t Touch Anything from Four Quarters.
The latest Oculus Blog post makes mention of Please Don’t Touch Anything, though notably doesn’t include the comma found in the 2015 release. Take note, then, that this may not be the very same release that can be found on Steam, iOS and Android, but it certainly seems like that’s the case. Publisher BulkyPix has already been involved with one other VR title from Phenomenon Games, which added support for the Oculus Rift PC-based HMD last year.
Please, Don’t Touch Anything is described as a ‘button-pushing simulation’. Players are tasked with covering for a work colleague who leaves his post for a bathroom break. Sitting in front of you is a big red button, of which you have been told strictly not to touch, as the name suggests. Of course, to advance the title you’ll have to push that button and see a number of different scenarios unfold. The original version of the title was updated late last year to include three additional endings, though it’s not clear if this added content could make it in to the VR release.
If this is indeed the project coming to Gear VR, then title is notably portrayed in 2D, which would obviously present an issue for the platform, but it could be that the developer is working to convert it into 3D, or create a hybrid between the original version and the VR supported one, much like Schell Games did with last year’s Orion Trail.
