There’s a lot of uncertainty around the release of some virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) at the moment. HTC and Valve had originally stated that their HTC Vive HMD for PC would be available in a limited quantity before the end of 2015, but time is quickly running out for that launch to take place. Oculus VR, meanwhile, had said that pre-orders for the Oculus Rift will be coming before the end of the year, but are still yet to show up. Finally, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) still hasn’t shared specific release details for its PlayStation VR, despite its H1 2016 release window.

That information still hasn’t arrived, but SCE has at least recently reaffirmed that the kit will be arriving in the first half of 2016. The company did as much with the launch of a new version of its ‘The Wonderful Life of a PS4 Player‘ advert this week. The video is the same that was first shown a few weeks ago, but now allows viewers to click on specific objects in each shot to find out more about them. PlayStation VR crops up towards the beginning of the advert, and click on it will display a recent trailer for the kit.

The information for PSVR here also reaffirms: “PlayStation VR launches in the first half of 2016.” It certainly sounds as if SCE is adamant it will make this window, then, despite the lack of launch information over the past few months.

VR fans are hoping to hear more about PlayStation VR this weekend at the 2015 PlayStation Experience fan event in San Francisco, California. The company will be hosting another keynote conference to open the show on 5th December 2015, with plenty of new announcements expected. PlayStation VR itself will be playable at the event’s show floor with the likes of RIGS: Mechanized Combat League and Wayward Sky making appearances.

VRFocus will continue to follow PlayStation VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
