Launch details for the PlayStation VR virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) are finally out in the open. Creator Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has today confirmed that the kit will be launching for $399 USD/£349 GBP at some point in October 2016. Many had wondered if SCE would be offering any free software for the launch of the kit, and it’s not been confirmed that one of its most popular titles thus far will be available to download at no extra cost.

SCE Japan Studios’ The Playroom VR will be available to download for free for anyone that purchases the kit at launch. This is a minigame compilation in the same vein as The Playroom experience that was available for free at the launch of the PlayStation 4. Confirmed experiences thus far include Ghost House, Monster Escape, and Cat N’ Mouse, each highlighting different aspects of VR such as multiplayer. Another three minigames will be included, bringing the list to six.

For comparison, Oculus VR is offering Lucky’s Tale for free with the Oculus Rift and EVE: Valkyrie for anyone that pre-orders it. The HTC Vive is giving away Tilt Brush, Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption.
