Pisofttech teases new 360 camera, changes company name to Labpano

Pisofttech changed its company name to Labpano and posted a teaser photo for a new product that appears to be a 360 camera.

Pisofttech, makers of Pilot Era, the first 8k 360 camera with in-camera stitching and one of the first to feature a touchscreen, announced that they are changing their company name to Labpano.

“We are delighted to announce that our brand name will be changed to Labpano. Labpano enhances our identity as the top innovative and trusted panoramic solutions company. We will dedicate ourselves to bringing new values to customers with professional-grade panoramic hardware and expandable industrial solutions. Along with the name change, We would like to share with you the new logo.”

Labpano also posted a teaser photo for an upcoming product release on December 24. The photo shows a sillhouette and the tagline “One of a Kind.” Presumably, it is a 360 camera but the outline seems more similar to that of a smartphone.

If this is indeed the actual silhouette of a 360 camera, it appears to be a two-lens design (given the absence of lenses in the silhouette), unlike the Pilot Era with four lenses.

My speculation is that it might be a slim 360 camera with the form factor of a smartphone.  If that is true, a slim design can improve stitching by decreasing parallax stitching error.  A touchscreen the size of a phone would also probably be the largest touchscreen on a 360 camera thus far.

On the other hand, there have already been a few smartphones with built-in 360 cameras, such as the Protruly Darling and Acer Holo360. However, if this camera offers higher resolution or features such as stabilization, then it would be fair to call it “one of a kind.”
