Taking a different angle on the whole sports genre is developer Jumping Llamas with its underwater title Periodonica. Built for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) Periodonica has launched on Steam Early Access so that the developer can get early feedback on any bugs or glitches present.

For this initial release there’s one sport available, Bowling, but a further three sports will be added over the planned three month early access period. The next sport to be added will be Baseball as that’s the current work in progress. The other two sports that’ll feature will be Archery and Frisbee.

Built specifically for virtual reality (VR), Periodonica is being designed as a social party videogame, competing against friends for the best highscore. Online multiplayer features are planned for some point in the future.

While the Bowling takes place underwater, the other sports will feature different locals, Jumping Llamas has indicated the Archery will take place on top of a mountain. After the official release a free “Olympia-DLC” pack will be launched giving players who’ve purchased the title access to Curling, Golf, Handball and Tennis.

Periodonica is currently available to download from Steam for a limited time price. Until 13th May, you can purchase the title for £15.40 GBP, a 33 percent discount on the regular price of £22.99.

As Jumping Llamas adds further updates to Periodonica, VRFocus will bring you the details.
