Today, OSSIC, the developers of the OSSIC X headphones, crossed the $2m USD mark in their Kickstarter campaign. With the original funding goal set at $1m, the campaign has now more than doubled its target with six days left to run.

The OSSIC X headphones auto-calibrate to the listener’s anatomy – a function designed to assist with the head-related transfer function (HRTF) technology incorporated in a number of virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) – meaning that the headphones can accurately recreate sound for an individual just as they would hear it in real life. In addition, the headphones feature built-in head tracking allowing that sound to be fixed at that point in space.

“We could not be more excited to reach this goal,” said Jason Riggs, CEO of OSSIC. “We’ve always believed we have special technology on our hands, but this incredible support from the community validates that. We can’t thank our community enough.”

OSSIC is working closely with THX and recently joined Abbey Road Red, a music and technology incubation program within the world famous Abbey Road Studios. VRFocus will keep you updated with the OSSIC X headphones and other OSSIC products designed for VR.
