Oculus VR launched its long awaited Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) on 28th March, and while some have received their new devices many have not. The first to get their HMDs were the original Kickstarter backer, then those that had pre-ordered in January should have received theirs next depending on when they got the order in. Unfortunately for a lot of customers they still haven’t received their Oculus Rifts and now the company has sent out an email giving further details.

Today consumers waiting for their headsets should have got an email from Oculus VR saying: “We’ve updated your Order History with a new shipment window for your Rift. This window may be later than your original estimate, due to the early component shortage. As a reminder, we’ll send you an email when we charge the payment method on file for your purchase and prepare your shipment. We’ll also cover all shipping and handling costs for orders placed through 11:59 PDT on April 1, 2016. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the Oculus Support team if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting the future of virtual reality. The Oculus Team.”

And it looks like this wait won’t be short either as Reddit users have been detailing their new estimated shipping dates, with some looking at an extra two months added on due to this ‘component shortage’.

How long these problems will persist is unknown, but with the first major launch of a virtual reality (VR) headset having such big hiccup hopefully Oculus VR will fix these issues quickly.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Oculus VR and the shipping chaos, reporting back with any further updates.
