The demand for the Oculus Rift remains high. Initial pre-orders significantly outstripped demand, and today the expected arrival date of new orders for the head-mounted display (HMD) has been pushed back to August 2016. Furthermore, new orders placed for the HMD will no longer include CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie as standard.
Oculus VR launched their pre-order campaign in January 2016 and began shipping last month. After some initial hiccups it seems that units have begun arriving with consumers across the globe, though only in much lower numbers than expected due to a component shortage. Oculus VR has made efforts to appease those who have not yet received their units by offering to waiver the shipping fees.
Those ordering their unit from today will have to wait a little longer for the HMD, and will no longer receive the pre-order bonus of EVE: Valkyrie which has since also been confirmed for release on the HTC Vive. New orders will still include the critically acclaimed Lucky’s Tale from Playful Corp., however.
There’s currently no word on the status of Oculus Rift units set to be included with Oculus VR’s partnerships with PC manufacturers in the Oculus Ready PC series, and whether or not these are now also backdated to such an extent. VRFocus will of course keep you updated.
