Using virtual reality (VR) sports companies aim to bring fans closer to the action by filming in immersive 180 or 360-degrees to give you the sense of being at the game. Now Oculus VR in partnership with Turner Sports, CBS, NCAA Corporate Champion Capital One, will be providing live game coverage of the NCAA Final Four Semifinals and National Championship in VR for the first time via the Samsung Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD).
Through the NCAA March Madness Live app on the Oculus Store, basketball fans will be able to view a 180-degree live stream through the HMD. It’ll be filmed from a courtside perspective and fans will also have the opportunity to view a virtual scoreboard with live stats. For those that don’t have a Gear VR headset, there will be 2D 180-degree live stream on desktop, and 360-degree highlights will be posted on the NCAA March Madness Facebook page.
The Semifinals will be held Saturday, 2nd April 2016, with coverage beginning at 3pm ET, with the National Championship taking place on Monday, 4th April, starting at 7pm ET.
