Back at the 2015 Oculus Connect developer conference in September both Oculus VR and Samsung introduced the consumer version of the Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). A host of software was also revealed for the upcoming device, including a VR Netflix app and other new video services. In terms of videogames, Oculus VR introduced a unique concept in Oculus Arcade, which allows players to visit a virtual arcade and play classic titles on a digital cabinet. More details about the app are yet to be revealed, although it has been confirmed today that it will feature 20 different titles.

That much was confirmed over on the new Best Buy page for consumer Gear VR pre-orders. So far Oculus VR has announced partnerships with SEGA, Warner Brothers Midway and Bandai Namco, confirming that the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Gauntlet, Spy Hunter, and Pac-Man will all be playable in this virtual environment. The app will be ready for the consumer launch of the Gear VR, although it’s not clear just how the title will be distributed. It might be that players pay one price for all these videogames or will purchase each individually.

The consumer Gear VR itself costs just $99 USD and will work with Samsung’s range of 2015 smartphones including the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. Best Buy’s pre-order page points towards a 20th November 2015 launch for the kit in the US, keeping in line with the original promise of a pre-Black Friday 2015 launch. Units are also expected to go on sale around the world at a later date in November. The kit marks Oculus VR’s first consumer launch just ahead of the release of the Oculus Rift itself in Q1 2016.

VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus Arcade closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
