Virtual reality (VR) was expected to have a big presence at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) 2016 this week, and its not disappointed. Tuesday featured big announcements from Crytek and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) for its PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD). Today its been Oculus VR’s turn as well as Epic Games. At the studios press conference today Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus VR took to the stage to discuss the work the companies had been doing together, he also dropped an unexpected reveal for Oculus VR’s software development kit (SDK).

Oculus announced the SDK v1.0 back in December, telling developers: “If you’re shipping a Rift title in Q1, you’ll need early access to Rift hardware and new platform features to finalize your game or application.” Now v1.3 will be launched on 28th March, the same day as the Oculus Rift consumer release.

Iribe didn’t go into detail on what improvements the new update will bring, those are likely to be announced on Oculus VR’s blog nearer the time. VRFocus will be continuing its coverage of Oculus SDK announcements, as further details are released.
