While the majority of news this week has been focused on the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016, looking at what will be coming out in the future, there’s still new virtual reality (VR) experiences launching this week you can play now. Arriving on Steam Early Access for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) is an indie title called Octoshield VR.

Created by Anthony Pigeot, Octoshield VR is a combo scoring arena videogame where players use a shield for both attack and defence. Throw the shield at enemies to kill them and score points or use it to protect yourself from incoming fire, the choice is yours. As you throw your shield around the arena it can ricochet off adjoining walls for combos but will also take longer to get back to you. Or if you hit targets in quick succession you’ll be able to build higher scores. There isn’t a multiplayer but you’ll be able to compete against other Steam players highscores shown on the leaderboard.

At the moment Pigeot states on Steam that the current version will be in early access “for at least a month”, and in its current form: “The base gameplay is entirely implemented and working; the game flow is complete (you can launch the menu, and play a game until you win/lose, with multiple waves; the game contains all sounds and music, and the game has no major known bug.”

Extra planned content for Octoshield VR include: New enemy variations; new game modes like Time Attack and Survival; more waves, including boss waves; online leaderboards and shield customisation.

Octoshield VR is currently on a limited time discount until 21st June 2016. There’s a 15 percent discount, dropping the price down to $4.24 USD rather than $4.99.
