Yesterday all eyes were on Oculus VR as the launch of its Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) has finally happened. For developers this now means all their hard work creating immersive virtual reality (VR) content for the device can now be played and appreciated. But software that hasn’t been updated to the most recent software development kit (SDK) version 1.3 won’t work with the new HMD. Its why FlyInside developer Daniel Church has now released a new update so owners can continue playing.

Alongside support for the Oculus SDK v1.3 the FlyInside 1.4 update also includes: a desktop shortcut for both FlyInside FSX and FlyInside P3D; experimental Geometry-Warp Smoothing (GWS) and several bug fixes, with one improving compatibility with Bitdefender Antivirus.

As Church explains in the update log: “GWS makes positional head movement much smoother, even at lower frame-rates. It does introduce some visual artifacts, and is considered experimental.”

He also adds a note at the end revealing he’s expecting a HTC Vive to be arriving this week which will allow him to develop support for the HMD. This support maybe available for the device’s launch on 5th April.

If that is the case VRFocus will bring you the latest news on FlyInside as the developer makes further announcements
