We’ve reported before on how virtual reality (VR) is beginning to really make a mark at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as other Cannes events. Now an experience from Britain’s National Theatre has been chosen to be a part of Cannes’ first ever program of VR content.

Damon Albarn and Moira Buffini’s VR video fabulous wonder.land, explores the world of the Alice In Wonderland musical adaptation wonder.land. Viewed through an Oculus Rift, you take the same trip as Alice down the rabbit hole and into the strange world of wonder.land, where nothing quite makes sense. The piece, the first of its kind by the National Theatre, has just finished a five month stay at the venus as part of a digital exhibition. It will now join the other selected pieces made by the Cannes committee.

“We are both delighted and honoured to have been selected for the first ever VR strand at the Cannes film festival.” Commented National Theatre Head of Digital Development Toby Coffey. “It’s great to see our work in this category, further assuring the relevance of theatre to this exciting new form for storytelling.”

VRFocus will bring you more news on VR developments from Cannes as we get it.
