In a couple of days time the San Diego Comic-Con will open its doors to a flurry of trade and public keen to see what new stuff is on the horizon. At the event will be Daniel Corey, the comic writer behind Moriarty and Red City by Image Comics. He be at a panel on the Saturday where he’ll be talking about his latest project, the Moriarty: Endgame virtual reality (VR) comic book.
The ‘Comics of Tomorrow: Innovations for the Future of Comics’ panel is targeted at anybody interested in comics or VR. Alongside Corey the panel will also host Marv Wolfman (New Teen Titans) and Zac Atkinson (Transformers: Robots in Disguise), discussing the technological advances of the comic world.
Not much has been revealed on the VR project other than it looks to be a VR adaption of the ten-part Moriarty: Endgame short story from 2014, with the backgrounds from the comic book immersing the viewer. The project came about through a partnership between Corey and Transmedia Entertainment. Transmedia Entertainment is an Australian VR specialist that’s created its own platform, Drop In VR.
The platform uses a four step “Model. Upload. Enhance. Explore” process, that enabled the company to come up with a way to create the environment of each scene within a 3D space.
“When artist Anthony Diecidue and I teamed with Image Comics to create the Moriarty graphic novel, we were the first to release a comic that featured the Professor as the leading man. Now, I’m teaming with Transmedia Entertainment to create something completely new, the Virtual Reality Comic Book, and setting Professor Moriarty loose to conquer yet another form of media.” said Corey in a statement.
While Joseph Narai, CEO of Transmedia Entertainment commented “We’re really excited for Daniel to talk about the work we’ve done together on Moriarty. It’s been an incredible experience to work on something so creative and we can’t wait for more people to see our Drop In VR platform in action”.
